Title: Adopt-A-Child/Family
Category: General
Description:

As a church, we want to be the hands and feet of Jesus. And this Christmas, you can put your lives in play by making Christmas a little more special for those who may be going through a hard time or in need of some joy and hope this season.

To help, you can "Adopt-A-Child or Family" this Christmas and purchase gifts to brighten their holiday season. We're partnering with Centerville and Miamisburg City Schools to share that hope and make a tangible difference in the lives of children and families in our community. With Centerville, you can purchase gifts for a child or multiple children. With Miamisburg, you purchase gifts for the children and their parents.

Here's all you need to do:
– Stop by the Atrium display on Nov. 22–23 and pick up a wish list. (You can also stop by the church from Nov. 17-20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a wish list.) Detailed instructions will be provided with each wish list.
– Purchase gifts on the wish list as per the provided instructions.
– For Centerville gifts, deliver to Cline Elementary on Thursday, Dec. 4 between 3:30-7:30 p.m. Or, deliver to the Central Office (behind Cline) on Monday, Dec. 8 between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m.
– For Miamisburg gifts, deliver to SouthBrook by Monday, Dec. 8.

If you have any questions, please contact Kathy Leeper.

Title: Compassion Child Sponsorship
Category: General, Missions
Description:

You can make a difference through child sponsorship! You can change the story in the life of a child. Children are incredibly vulnerable in our world. All over the planet—and close to home—millions live exposed to the threat of abuse, neglect, hunger and homelessness. But, we can be Jesus to some of them. And He wants us to!

If you feel led and are financially able to help, consider sponsoring a child through Compassion International by selecting a sponsorship from the Atrium display from Dec. 6–14. And, think about this. Sponsoring a child is one of the key ways you can personally join the effort to prevent human trafficking. How? Because when a child is sponsored, there isn’t nearly the pressure on many of these families to pull their kids out of school and place them in vulnerable work situations. It’s just one of many reasons to sponsor a child. Take time to read about the children. To pray over the children. To pray that God will guide you in selecting a child. And prayerfully consider this important decision to make an impact in this world.

We all have a story. We live it out every day. And by becoming a child sponsor, you have the opportunity to change the story for a child by sharing His love and shining a light into the next chapter of their story.

Title: Experience Change H.S. Fall Retreat
Category: Students
Description:
Humanity is creative. Each of us has an essence of creativity within us. To awaken, understand, and empower this creativity will be key to showing God's story to the world around us. We can't do it alone. We must collaborate with those who are different than we are. We need their perspectives, abilities, and friendships to truly navigate God's story to the world. There are so many causes we could focus our creativity and collaboration on, but there is only one that matters. There is one cause, one kingdom, one love and one God worthy of our creativity and collaboration.

And, that's what lies ahead at Experience Change—an annual H.S. retreat (9th-12th grade) with the potential to be the most impactful event of your semester. It's the best thing H.S. students can do to grow in Jesus and in relationships with other students. Take a next step in your walk and enjoy this weekend with us. Cost is $65 for the weekend, but no transportation is provided. Students should be dropped off at Butler Springs in Hillsboro at 7 p.m. on Friday and picked up at 12 p.m. on Sunday.

Title: Love & Respect Conference
Category: Couples/Marriage
Description:

What is Love and Respect? We believe love best motivates a woman and respect most powerfully motivates a man. Research reveals that during marital conflict a husband most often reacts when feeling disrespected and a wife reacts when feeling unloved.

At the Love & Respect Conference, men and women will learn how to resolve conflict, dealing with the negative reactions (the crazy cycle). They will also learn how to motivate each other by meeting each other's need (the energizing cycle). Even those who feel hopeless in their relationships will gain understanding on how to handle an indifferent or unresponsive partner (the rewarded cycle).

The conference will be simulcast from Calvary Chapel of the Tri-State in Fairfield, Ohio on Friday, Nov. 14 (6:45-10:15 p.m.) and Saturday, Nov. 15 (8:45 a.m.-1:45 p.m.). Cost is $15 per person through Nov. 3 and $20 per person after Nov. 3.

Title: PLAY Study (1st in PLAY series)
Category: General
Taught By: DVD-Driven
Description:

At SouthBrook, we strive to put our lives into PLAY! We want God to use us. We want God to use our Personalities, Learnings, Abilities and Yearnings to go into the world and make it as God intended it to be. Your Personality is the way God put you into PLAY! It is the combination of characteristics that make you…YOU! Learnings are the accumulated data and wisdom from pain experiences that grow, mature, and refine us. Learnings lead to shaping. And purpose. And God’s Glory in the world. Abilities, combined with the Spirit of God in us, make something special of God come out of us to our world. It is the ways that God’s Spirit works through us to be the hands and feet of Jesus in this world. Our Yearnings are bringing God into the world when our gifts intersect with our world’s real needs. When God is in you and your soul is alive, there will be places in your soul that burn with His desire to set this world right.

After completiong of this PLAY Study, you might also consider taking the PLAYer Profiles Study, the second study in the PLAY series.

To participate in the PLAY Study, please pick up a copy from the Bookstore or SouthBrook Central.

Title: PLAYer Profiles Study (2nd in PLAY series)
Category: General
Taught By: DVD-Driven
Description:

As a follow up to the PLAY Study, we look at the biblical characters that have discovered their shape—those who embody and exemplify how God puts people into PLAY and who illustrate the spiritual abilities listed in Scripture. Through these biblical profiles, we discover ourselves as well as learn in depth about those who are the heroic players in the history of our faith. When this study is over, we know ourselves better and how God can use our lives for His purposes. We further discover divinely enabled Abilities that we might not know we have since surrendering our lives to Christ or that may be hidden in us because of not yet surrendering.

As part of this study, we take an assessment to determine our individual Spiritual Abilities—gifts that, combined with the Spirit of God in us, make something special of God come out of us to our world. To participate in the PLAYer Profiles Study, please pick up a copy from the Bookstore or SouthBrook Central.

Besides the gifts of faith and mercy giving, and although not officially recognized as one of the spiritual gifts, Randy believes he also has the gift of play." Randy is a certified instructor for Equipping Ministries, Inc. in the areas of communication skills, conflict resolution and family systems. Title: SouthBrook Drive-In
Category: General
Description:

You've heard about Christmas in July...but we're bringing a bit of July to Christmas for a SouthBrook Drive-In on Sunday, Dec. 7 from 3:45–6:15 p.m. (Feature movie starts at 4:15. Theater doors open at 3:45 for concessions and preview show.) You may have to wear hats and gloves but no rain, sleet or snow will close down this Drive-In. It's FREE admission, but you'll want a few dollars for concession snacks (all below $.75 cents—now that's a bargain matinee!). Invite your friends! Bring chairs/blankets, stake out a spot in our theater, then sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

What movie, you ask? Back by popular demand, Buddy the Elf will once again hit the big screens at SouthBrook.

To add to the fun, let's celebrate in style—tacky-style, that is—and wear your most tacky Christmas attire. Nothing says cheer like snowmen, Santas and jingle bells in applique, yarn and sequins (especially if the ensemble practically outshines the Christmas tree). Christmas attire is optional, but we hope you'll flaunt it proudly for a holly jolly evening to kick off the season.

Get FREE tickets for each movie-goer! If you get 'em by Nov. 30, it's a win-win. We know you're coming. And you get a chance to win a prize!

Tickets are not yet available. Please check back soon.

And to make it all happen, we'll need volunteers to lend a hand. Our volunteer elves (adults and kids) aren’t naughty, they’re nice…and for being nice all of our elves get a free beverage and unlimited popcorn! Check out the available positions and be one of our Drive-In volunteer elves!
