Title: Adopt-A-Child | Family
Category: Missions
Description:

As a church, we want to be the hands and feet of Jesus. And this Christmas, you can put your lives in play by making Christmas a little more special for those who may be going through a hard time or in need of some joy and hope this season.

To help, you can "Adopt-A-Child or Family" this Christmas and purchase gifts to brighten their holiday season. We're partnering with Centerville and Miamisburg City Schools to share that hope and make a tangible difference in the lives of children and families in our community. With Centerville, you can purchase gifts for a child or multiple children. With Miamisburg, you purchase gifts for the children and their parents.

Here's all you need to do:
– Stop by the Atrium display on Nov. 22–23 and pick up a wish list. (You can also stop by the church from Nov. 17-20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a wish list.) Detailed instructions will be provided with each wish list.
– Purchase gifts on the wish list as per the provided instructions.
– For Centerville gifts, deliver to Cline Elementary on Thursday, Dec. 4 between 3:30-7:30 p.m. Or, deliver to the Central Office (behind Cline) on Monday, Dec. 8 between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m.
– For Miamisburg gifts, deliver to SouthBrook by Monday, Dec. 8.

If you have any questions, please contact Kathy Leeper.

Title: Boundaries Class
Category: General, Couples | Marriage
Taught By: Randy Creamer

Randy loves his family and is proud to see it grow. He and Sue Ann, wife of 36 years, enjoy their 3 sons, 2 daughters by marriage, and 2 granddaughters. Besides the gifts of faith and mercy giving, and although not officially recognized as one of the spiritual gifts, Randy believes he also has the gift of play." "Live well, love much, laugh often and play hard" would have been the 11th commandment if he had Moses' chisel.

Randy received his Bachelors Degree in Christian Ministries from Kentucky Christian University and since coming to SouthBrook in 1998, has led our small group ministry, worship arts, and couples ministry. Randy is a certified instructor for Equipping Ministries, Inc. in the areas of communication skills, conflict resolution and family systems. Randy has also received a certification in professional life and marriage coaching from Light University and is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors.

Description:

A class for couples and individuals looking for a sense of control over their lives. People have a need to be in control of their own lives, and a need to know that God is behind that idea.

This need is fundamental in the creation of mankind according to the Bible. God created us to be free and to act responsibly with our freedom. He wanted us to be in control of ourselves and to have a good existence. He was behind that idea all along. But as we all know, we misused our freedom, and as a result, lost it. And the big fruit of this loss of freedom was the loss of self-control.

It is now no wonder why the need for Boundaries is felt so deeply. This idea of boundaries talks about something so dear to the heart of God that He says it was one of the motivators for the sacrifice of Christ Himself, "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery" (Galatians 5.1). Jesus died to set us free—from sin, from the devil, from the world around us. And that is the essence of what this Boundaries class will teach—freedom. Join us on Monday, Mar. 4 in the epic cafe. No cost for this class.

Title: Compassion Child Sponsorship
Category: Missions
Description:

You can make a difference through child sponsorship! You can change the story in the life of a child. Children are incredibly vulnerable in our world. All over the planet—and close to home—millions live exposed to the threat of abuse, neglect, hunger and homelessness. But, we can be Jesus to some of them. And He wants us to!

If you feel led and are financially able to help, consider sponsoring a child through Compassion International by selecting a sponsorship from the Atrium display from Dec. 6–14. And, think about this. Sponsoring a child is one of the key ways you can personally join the effort to prevent human trafficking. How? Because when a child is sponsored, there isn’t nearly the pressure on many of these families to pull their kids out of school and place them in vulnerable work situations. It’s just one of many reasons to sponsor a child. Take time to read about the children. To pray over the children. To pray that God will guide you in selecting a child. And prayerfully consider this important decision to make an impact in this world.

We all have a story. We live it out every day. And by becoming a child sponsor, you have the opportunity to change the story for a child by sharing His love and shining a light into the next chapter of their story.

Title: Creations for Christ Team Meetings
Category: General
Description:

The Creations for Christ Team of Cancer Hope has monthly gatherings at SouthBrook to get together, fellowship and create handmade items for the survivors. There is no obligation to attend, but the meeting is open to all who are interested in learning to knit and join the ministry.

Join us in the Staff Conference Room from 2:30-5 p.m. on the following Saturdays: Oct. 25, Nov. 22 and Dec. 13.

Together, we create prayer shawls—handmade gifts of encouragement and hope that are knitted, crocheted, or sewn one stitch at a time with much love and prayer. Our intent is that the recipient will find comfort in knowing they are not alone. That someone cares. That the healing power of God is present as the garment is wrapped securely around them. And, that they feel the embrace of God supporting them each step of their journey.

Title: Experience Change H.S. Fall Retreat
Category: Students
Description:
Humanity is creative. Each of us has an essence of creativity within us. To awaken, understand, and empower this creativity will be key to showing God's story to the world around us. We can't do it alone. We must collaborate with those who are different than we are. We need their perspectives, abilities, and friendships to truly navigate God's story to the world. There are so many causes we could focus our creativity and collaboration on, but there is only one that matters. There is one cause, one kingdom, one love and one God worthy of our creativity and collaboration.

And, that's what lies ahead at Experience Change—an annual H.S. retreat (9th-12th grade) with the potential to be the most impactful event of your semester. It's the best thing H.S. students can do to grow in Jesus and in relationships with other students. Take a next step in your walk and enjoy this weekend with us at Butler Springs in Hillsboro. Title: Healing Grace
Category: General
Taught By: Randy Creamer

Randy loves his family and is proud to see it grow. He and Sue Ann, wife of 36 years, enjoy their 3 sons, 2 daughters by marriage, and 2 granddaughters. Besides the gifts of faith and mercy giving, and although not officially recognized as one of the spiritual gifts, Randy believes he also has the gift of play." "Live well, love much, laugh often and play hard" would have been the 11th commandment if he had Moses' chisel.

Description:
In this class, we will look at Grace—what it is, when we have received it, and what blocks it from our lives. We'll learn about embracing God's friendship and experiencing His freedom. God provides for us and we end up making decisions based on how deeply we allow His grace to penetrate us. We'll look closely at why we are not experiencing God's freedom and learn ways to allow His grace to break the chains that keep us in bondage.

Shame has such a powerful strangle-hold that it traps us into giving up hope and causing us to embrace lies about ourselves, others and God. Satan often uses shame to gain the advantage and then slides in to steal and destroy. God wants to take back that territory of your heart, mind and soul meant for you to enjoy friendship and freedom. Join us on Tuesday, Feb. 25 from 7-9 p.m. as we explore ways to take back some of the territory that the thief has captured. There is no cost for this class.

Even those who feel hopeless in their relationships will understand how to handle an indifferent or unresponsive partner (the rewarded cycle).

At SouthBrook, we strive to put our lives into PLAY! We want God to use us, and use our Personalities, Learnings, Abilities and Yearnings to go into the world and make it as God intended. Your Personality is the way God put you into PLAY. It is the combination of characteristics that make you…YOU! Learnings are the accumulated data and wisdom from pain experiences that grow, mature, and refine us. Learnings lead to shaping, purpose, and God’s glory in the world. Abilities, combined with the Spirit of God in us, make something special of God come out of us. It's the ways God’s Spirit works through us to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Our Yearnings are bringing God into the world when our gifts intersect with our world’s real needs. When God is in you and your soul is alive, there will be places in your soul that burn with His desire to set this world right.

Upon completion of this study, you might also consider the PLAYer Profiles Study, the second study in the PLAY series.

To participate in the PLAY Study, pick up a copy from the Bookstore or SouthBrook Central.

Title: PLAYer Profiles Study (2nd in series)
Category: General
Taught By: DVD-Driven
Description:

As a follow up to the PLAY Study, we look at the biblical characters that have discovered their shape—who embody and exemplify how God puts people into PLAY and illustrate the spiritual abilities in Scripture. In these biblical profiles, we discover ourselves and learn about the heroic players in the history of our faith. Through this study, we know ourselves better and see how God can use our lives for His purposes. We discover divinely enabled Abilities that we might not know we have since surrendering our lives to Christ or that may be hidden in us because of not yet surrendering.

As part of this study, we take an Assessment to determine our individual Spiritual Abilities—gifts that, combined with the Spirit of God in us, make something special of Him come out of us.

To participate in the PLAYer Profiles Study, pick up a copy from the Bookstore or SouthBrook Central.

Title: SouthBrook Drive-In
Category: Special Events
Description:

You've heard about Christmas in July...but we're bringing a bit of July to Christmas for a SouthBrook Drive-In on Sunday, Dec. 7 from 3:45–6:15 p.m. (Feature starts at 4:15. Theater opens at 3:45 for concessions and preview.) You may have to wear hats and gloves but no rain, sleet or snow will close down this Drive-In. It's FREE admission, but bring a few dollars for concessions (all below $.75 cents—now that's a bargain matinee!).

Back by popular demand, Buddy the Elf will once again hit the big screens at SouthBrook. Invite your friends! Bring chairs/blankets, stake out a spot in our theater, then sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

To add to the fun, let's celebrate in style—tacky-style, that is—and wear your most tacky Christmas attire. Nothing says cheer like snowmen, Santas and jingle bells in applique, yarn and sequins (especially if the ensemble practically outshines the Christmas tree). It's optional, but we hope you'll flaunt those sweaters proudly for a holly jolly evening to kick off the season.

Get FREE tickets for each movie-goer! If you get 'em by Nov. 30, it's a win-win. We know you're coming. And you get a chance to win a prize!

Tickets are not yet available. Please check back soon.

And to make it all happen, we'll need volunteers to lend a hand. Our volunteer elves (adults and kids) aren’t naughty, they’re nice…and for being nice all elves get a free beverage and unlimited popcorn!
Check out the available positions and be one of our volunteer elves!
