Title: Adventuring Through The Bible
Category: General
Taught By: Pete Creamer

"Pete" Creamer, husband to Marla, is the father of three children and a proud grandpa. Pete received an undergraduate degree at Kentucky Christian University as well as a double Masters in Christian Leadership and Christian Ministry. For 29 years, he served as Teaching Pastor for The First Church of Christ in Xenia. He and Marla have attended SouthBrook since 2008, and Pete is probably most recognizable as one of the bass guitar players in our Worship Arts Ministry. But, he can also be found teaching our Adventuring Through the Bible and Margin classes, and occasionally our Baptism Orientation. Pete is perhaps best known as "Randy Creamer's brother."

Description:

This class provides a panorama view of God and His Story. The Bible has one message, tells one story, moves to one point, and directs our attention to one person – Jesus Christ. Our journey will look at God's creation where His Story begins with a picture of creation as He intended it before the fall. The remainder of God's Word is His passionate story of seeking restoration for the crown of creation – fallen humanity. Class participants will receive an outline of each Book along with its purpose and objective with an emphasis on practical application. Cost is $18 per person. Limited scholarships are available, please contact Rita Brown for more information. Join us on Sundays, Jan. 22 to Feb. 26 from 6:30–8:30 p.m.! Note: We will not meet on Sunday, February 5 due to Super Bowl Sunday.

Description:

Ever try combining members of two (or more) different households? This might be the most difficult task for any family in America today. Integration involves combining two unique family styles, various personalities and preferences, differing traditions, pasts, and loyalties.

Have you ever walked down the aisle a second or third time, only to discover that the building process is much more different than anticipated?

"It takes five years to learn how to parent a five-year old. I just got one yesterday, and no matter what I do, I am five years behind."
— A stepmom

Family therapists have long recognized that divorce doesn't really end family life; it just reorganizes it. And, the purpose of this class is to give a healthy picture of a successful stepfamily based on God's instruction manual. The idea is to work smarter, not harder.

Join us for a 4-week Close Encounters class on Saturday mornings (9–11 a.m.) on: Feb. 18, Feb. 25, Mar. 17 and Mar. 24. There is no cost, but please register so we know you're coming. Common uncharted waters to be discussed include:
– achieving marital intimacy after being hurt
– parenting and step-parenting roles and rules
– how to integrate the members of a stepfamily over time
– dealing with ex-spouses and co-parenting issues
– helping children emotionally and spiritually

Description:

Forgiveness. It can be hard to do at times, but Matthew 6.14 tells us, "For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you." We learn from the Bible, as well as medical research, that forgiveness matters to your spiritual, emotional, relational, and physical health. It's an important act to put into practice in our everyday lives.

So, what does the Bible teach us about forgiveness? We have developed a class that will help you discover not only what the Bible teaches, but learn real practical techniques that will lead you to deep healing and freedom. This two-part class will meet on Mondays, Apr. 2 and Apr. 9 from 7-9 p.m. and will focus on the following objectives:

1. Learn the truth about forgiveness.
2. Learn the primary paths people take that lead to denial and bitterness.
3. Learn the path of forgiveness.
4. Learn a process that will help lead you to peace and forgiveness.

This class is designed for couples, but is open to all who are interested in learning about forgiveness. No cost for this class.

In the book Grace-Based Parenting, Dr. Tim Kimmel focuses on the first two levels of this grace-based parenting model. This small group study will help you:

– Make parenting more fun
– Liberate your kids emotionally and spiritually
– Prepare your family for a lifetime of healthy choices and relationships
– Know the best way you can meet your kids' most basic needs
– Teach kids to navigate culture, choose better friends & make wise choices

Parents can expect to walk away with a blueprint for building confident, courageous and cooperative kids. This study will show parents a grace-based, character-driven model to nurture well-rounded and loving kids—and have a great time in the process.

Title: Weekend to Remember Marriage Getaway
Category: Couples/Marriage
Description:

Life has a way of overwhelming a marriage—jobs, kids, activities, errands. Before you know it, checking email is more important than carving out a date night. FamilyLife's Weekend to Remember® is a chance to make a change, to rediscover each other and find more intimacy in life together.

During the weekend, you'll find a warm, engaging environment that's all about making progress in your marriage. What you and your spouse will hear is not just one couple’s opinion on marriage. Instead, it is the result of more than three decades of biblical research by a team of men and women who distilled what it takes to have a successful marriage and family. It is not a large counseling session, and you will not be asked to participate in small groups. Rather, you will receive marriage-changing principles to take home and apply to your lives that will strengthen your marriage. The speakers show how to pursue a marriage that really works through stories of their own break-throughs and blunders. Every couple drives away with a roadmap to a great marriage. You will leave the weekend with hope, encouragement, and practical tools to build and grow your relationship. That's why it's called a Weekend to Remember®!

See and hear what other couples are saying about the weekend getaway. And, view a detailed schedule for what each day of the weekend looks like.

There is an upcoming weekend getaway in Dayton at the Dayton Marriott on March 2-4 and in Cincinnati at the Hyatt Regency on Feb. 24-26. If you are unable to attend on those dates, find another getaway near you! Cost is $318 per couple and you can register online at the FamilyLife website!
