Category: Baptism
Taught By: Pete Creamer

"Pete" Creamer, husband to Marla, is the father of three children and a proud grandpa. Pete received an undergraduate degree at Kentucky Christian University as well as a double Masters in Christian Leadership and Christian Ministry. For 29 years, he served as Teaching Pastor for The First Church of Christ in Xenia. He and Marla have attended SouthBrook since 2008, and Pete is probably most recognizable as one of the bass guitar players in our Worship Arts Ministry. But, you'll also find him teaching our Baptism Orientations every now and again. Pete is perhaps best known as "Randy Creamer's brother."

Title: Big Splash Baptism Weekend
Category: Baptism
Description:

Baptism is an important outward sign of belief in Jesus and shows a willingness to surrender to God's power in our lives. During Mar. 25-26 services, we'll celebrate those who make the decision to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior with a Big Splash Weekend. All are welcome, adults and students—first timers, re-baptisms, or those sprinkled and want to be obedient. No testimony, no talking...just one baptism after another! Since epic will not meet, students should attend services in the Main Theater.

To learn more, our Baptism Orientation is an excellent resource for further explanation as to why we celebrate baptism the way we do. It's optional, but available if you have questions. Go to Events for upcoming classes.

It’s a big decision. But one you won't regret. Think about it. And when ready, we're here to take that step with you. If you know in advance, go ahead and register now. If not yet sure, but you decide "in the moment," we'll be ready with a change of clothes! Contact Lu Musselman with any questions.

Title: Christmas Eve Services - Miamisburg
Category: General
Description:

Life is full of extraordinary, overwhelming moments. Celebrations, losses, failures and success seem to be what we live for. We move between each as if they are milestones on a journey. But what about the in between moments? Those small, seemingly insignificant details that make up the majority of our lives. We see God in the big and monumental, but do we experience Him just as much in the tiny and fleeting?

Join us, this Christmas, and Encounter Jesus with all that you are.

Tuesday, Dec. 20 through Friday, Dec. 23 | 6 & 8 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 24 | 4:30, 6:30 & 11 p.m.

Seating is on a first come basis in our Main and Small Theater. Our Children's Ministry will be open through age 1 at all services except 11 p.m.

Tickets help us to evenly distribute attendance throughout all services and ensures there is adequate seating. Tickets are free but will be collected, and are required for each person attending in the Main or Small Theater (including kids).

Title: Compassion Child Sponsorship
Category: Missions
Description:

You can make a difference through child sponsorship! You can change the story in the life of a child. Children are incredibly vulnerable in our world. All over the planet—and close to home—millions live exposed to the threat of abuse, neglect, hunger and homelessness. But, we can be Jesus to some of them. And He wants us to!

This Christmas, consider sponsorship from Compassion International of children who live in the northern coastal desert of Peru. Sponsoring a child is one way to join the effort to prevent human trafficking. When a child is sponsored, there isn’t nearly the pressure on many of these families to pull their kids out of school and place them in vulnerable work situations. It’s just one of many reasons to sponsor. Read about and pray over these children. Ask God to guide you in selecting a child. And prayerfully consider this important decision to make an impact in the world.

We all have a story. We live it out every day. And by becoming a child sponsor, you have the opportunity to change the story for a child by sharing His love and shining a light into the next chapter of their story.

Sponsorship Packets will be available at both campuses in December.

Title: Couples, Comedy & Cupcakes
Category: Couples | Marriage, Special Events
Description:

Make a date night for Couples, Comedy & Cupcakes on Friday, Feb. 10 featuring Buzz Sutherland, "one of the top touring comedians out there," according to NY Times.

For more than 25 years, Humorist Buzz Sutherland has had audiences holding their cheeks in uncontrollable laughter. His appearances on NBC, HBO, Comedy Central, and CMT have kept him in the mix. What's the key to a guy that is not a household name having a career as decorated as Buzz? The answer is quite simple as his comedy is a throw back to the days of good clean humor reminding us of his mentors, Jonathan Winters and Red Skelton. By performing humor that appeals to everyone and offends no one, Buzz has stayed atop the comedy ladder.

Evening includes a reception from 7:30-8:30 with live music, cupcakes/desserts, and kissing photo booth, followed by a 8:30-10 showtime. Desserts provided by: 2 Cups Coffee, ele Cake Co., Bobo's Chocolates and Geaux to the Moon (dairy/gluten free). And, if you want to eat dinner before the event, one bistro will be open. Enjoy good food while supporting a good cause! Call 859.1165 for reservations.

Cost is $10 per person (Feb. 9 or before) and $15 on Feb. 10, online or at the door. Get tickets by Feb. 6 and be entered to win a couple's date night ($100 value)! With reserved seating, get tickets early to get a good seat.

Title: Men's Series: If
Category: Men
Description:

If is a powerful word. Some people are stuck in if only, trudging through lives marked with regret. But God wants us to live lives marked with possibilities, with the what if attitude that looks forward to the future with confidence. Why? Because the answer to "If God is for us, who can be against us?" is "No one." God is always on our side. Every day, in every way.

In this series, Mark Batterson helps overcome feelings of guilt, fear, and doubt, because in Christ there is no condemnation. Unpacking the promises of Romans 8, he shows that we are more than conquerors—now and forever. And because of that, the possibilities for our lives are limitless.

There is no cost to participate. Study resources (book and participant guide) are both available at Amazon. The resources are helpful, but not required. Join us from 6-7:30 a.m. or 7-8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, Feb. 15 - Mar. 15.

Taught By: DVD-Driven
Description:

We want God to use our Personality, Learnings, Abilities and Yearnings to go into the world and make it as He intended. Personality is a combination of characteristics that make us! Learnings are accumulated data and wisdom from pain experiences that grow, mature and refine us. Abilities, combined with the Spirit in us, make something special come out of us to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Yearnings are bringing God into the world as our gifts intersect with the world’s real needs. When God is in us, there will be places in our soul that burn with His desire to set the world right.

As a PLAY Study follow up, we look at biblical characters that have discovered their shape—who embody and exemplify how God puts people into PLAY to illustrate the spiritual abilities in Scripture and teach about the heroic players in the history of our faith.

In this study, we come to know ourselves better and see how God can use our lives for His bigger purposes. In an Assessment, we determine Spiritual Abilities—gifts that, combined with the Spirit in us, make something special of Him come out of us. We discover these divinely enabled Abilities that we may not know we have since surrendering our lives to Christ or that may be hidden because of not yet surrendering.

Title: Provoke
Category: General
Description:

Leadership is a series of events or teachings we have either learned along the way or if humble enough, have learned from someone else. By listening to others who humbly share their experiences, we would be amazed at how quickly each of us would pick up our own problems. Yet often, leaders are not vulnerable enough to let others see their weaknesses. Sharing those fears quite simply reminds us that we are not alone and together, we can accomplish so much more.

Some of us are too comfortable. Life is good. No big problems.
Could we be Provoked to do more?

Some are tired, worn out, and Provoked by life’s circumstances.
Could we be comforted and shown that we are not alone?

Through Provoke, a NEW! leadership session, we'll look closely at these questions. Although geared toward business people, it's open to anyone as we meet monthly on the first Tuesday from 7-8 a.m. in the Small Theater. No cost or registration required.

Title: SouthBrook Drive In
Category: Kids, Students, Special Events
Description:

You've heard about Christmas in July...but we're bringing a bit of July to Christmas for a Drive In on Sunday, Dec. 11 from 3-5:30 p.m. (Doors open at 3:00 for concessions. Movie starts at 3:30.) You may have to wear hats and gloves but no rain or snow will close down this Drive In. It's FREE, but bring a few dollars for concessions (all below $.75—a bargain matinee!). Bring chairs or blankets. Stake out a spot in our theater. Then sit back, relax, and enjoy the show as The Santa Clause hits our big screens!

To add to the fun, celebrate in style with Christmas sweaters or pj's. Nothing says cheer like snowmen, Santas and jingle bells in applique and sequins (especially if the ensemble almost outshines the tree). It's optional, but we hope you'll flaunt those sweaters or pj's proudly to kick off the season.

Invite your friends and get FREE tickets for each movie-goer!

Title: Women's Study: Entrusted
Category: Women
Description:

We were never meant to take our journey of faith alone or in secret. God has entrusted us with the great and mighty gift of the Gospel, something too precious and life-giving to keep ourselves. In this Beth Moore study, you'll guard what God has entrusted to you, further His kingdom by sharing Christ with others, and pour into future generations just as Paul once mentored Timothy. Because in this journey of joy and hardship, we need each other to stay the course and live lives of faithfulness. Contact: Kory Buttrey.

Title: Women's Study: Sermon on the Mount
Category: Women
Description:

Most of us have only encountered the Sermon on the Mount in fragments, considering its subdivisions as complete teachings in their own right – a study on blessedness, a reflection on the Lord's Prayer, a meditation on lilies of the field. But what if we navigated these three chapters as they were originally heard: as one cohesive, well-ordered message, intended to challenge us to think differently about repentance, salvation, and sanctification? This Jen Wilkin study does just that. Contact: Kory Buttrey.
