Missions

Jesus spent a lot of his time with people who lived on the margins of society, the poor and powerless. As a church, we want to fulfill the call to be the “hands and feet” of Jesus, going and serving those who may feel lost, hurt or abandoned.

SouthBrook’s Missions exists to connect the church to what God is doing beyond our walls. We want to follow the example of Jesus by serving the poor and the broken. We want to go into the local community and the world promoting compassion and life change through Jesus Christ. Our great hope is to comfort the outcasts, embrace the vulnerable and invest in the powerless.

God has already done some great things! If you would like more information, numbers and details, about how we have resourced these communities, please contact Jerry Ittel

SouthBrook has a number of ongoing relationships with the following international and local organizations that exist to serve people in need.

ST. MARY'S PARISH, JAMAICA
American
Caribbean Experience (ACE)
As one of the most missional para–church organizations to be found anywhere, ACE particularly focuses on vulnerable children and are frontline agents supporting the neediest children within their reach at St. Mary’s Parish in northeastern Jamaica. This takes the form of personal home visits, school lunches and tutoring through a child sponsorship program. ACE also goes the other end of the age spectrum by caring for the elderly residents at the Port Maria Infirmary. View their video and photo album to see what ACE is doing and what you might experience on a trip. For more information, visit the ACE web site. To see SouthBrook teams in action, view a few videos from previous Jamaica trips: tutoring, planting gardens, and helping at the infirmary and a thrift sale.

ACE micro–business trains eager Jamaicans through group classes and one–on–one mentoring to develop small business strategies, ethics, principles, working models and leadership skills. A mission for adults of any skill level, but specifically in business, leadership, teaching and finance who have an interest in helping disadvantaged people get back on their feet. Servants are needed from all walks of life, not just business professionals. If you have a skill that others could reproduce or a passion to help those seeking life change, this will be a great way to put your faith in action. For questions about ACE micro–business, please email Teri Barhorst (from SouthBrook) who is now an ACE missionary in Jamaica. To stay up to date on Teri's work, follow her blog!

SouthBrook offers a variety of short–term mission trip experiences. If you are interested in serving alongside the ACE organization, check out our upcoming mission trips on the Events page.
