Servispansion: 1/28-29/2012

By Laura Buffington

If you've been to church this weekend, you know we honored some people who have put their lives into play.  We also helped Charlie mark 20 years of service here at SouthBrook.  We had people write some letters about what it's meant to them to be served by someone else.  We hope you were encouraged to think about serving.  We also hope you were encouraged to thank someone who has shown you love and support.  In the spirit of this weekend, here's the kind of letter we think God might write to some of you:

"To whom it may concern:
I want to make sure you know how much it means to me when you do things that not everybody gets to see. Thank you for coming in during the week when the building is empty and cleaning the toys so children can play with them over and over without spreading around their precious germs.  Thank you for standing out in the parking lot during the cold and the rain so people can find their way home.  Thank you for arriving early and getting the coffee ready so tired souls can pay attention just a little bit longer.  Thank you for quietly listening to the troubles of your friends so they can face another day feeling like they’ve been heard.  Thank you for rocking the babies, thank you for guiding the students, thank you for welcoming the searchers, thank you for setting the tables, thank you for making the place feel like home.  Thank you for making yourself less so that people can know me more.  See you on the flipside.

God, Maker of earth and you and everyone you know"

If you want to read more this week about what it means to be the "body of Christ," check out 1 Corinthians 12. Every part matters and we hope you're ready and willing to show the world what Jesus looks like as a part of this community.

And in case you want to see what it looks like when a grown man turns his apartment into the set from Star Trek, just click here.
